Congratulations to Jennifer Litomisky, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities Detroit, who was named to Crain's Detroit Business' "Notable Women in Nonprofits" list. Under Jennifer’s direction, Ronald McDonald House of Detroit more than doubled to 26 bedrooms from 12. The nonprofit provides a home away from home for 1,500 families of children receiving care at area hospitals every year.

Congratulations to Ronald McDonald House Charities Detroit and Children's Hospital of Michigan on the opening of the new Family Room at the hospital. This relaxing space offers comfortable furniture, snacks, activities, laundry, a shower and other things that families need when their loved ones are in the hospital. Check out this video to take a tour of the new space!
The Ronald McDonald House Charities Detroit will be able to provide more support for families who are in times of need thanks to a new Family Room at Children's Hospital of Michigan. The 2,100-square –foot Family Room will serve the 142 units on the 5th and 6th floors. The Family Room features a circular lounge with comfortable seating, a fireplace and large-screen TV. In a radius around the lounge are four private areas with seating and a TV; an open section with tables for eating or playing games, and a play room where kids can engage with their siblings, peers and parents.
If you’ve had breakfast at the Madison Heights McDonald’s restaurant in the past three decades, chances are, you’ve met Johnna South. She retired this week after nearly 32 years with McDonald’s and there were smiles and happy tears as she ended her final shift. Her coworkers describe her as the matriarch of the restaurant, someone who knows customers by name and by their orders. She’s someone who knit baby blankets for crew members when they brought their newborns home from the hospital, and someone who made working at the restaurant at John R & 12 Mile Rd. feel like family. We salute you, Johnna! Happy trails to you and your husband (who also retired this week.) Enjoy traveling out west! Here’s a look at how she was honored on her last day.
America’s Best First Job: Meet Jennifer Browning, a general manager at the McDonald’s restaurant on Owen Rd. in Fenton, Michigan. She’s worked at McDonald’s for 27 years and was recently honored with the prestigious Ray Kroc Award for excellence. The award is given to the top one percent of McDonald's general managers. She’s worked at McDonald’s since she was a teenager and is now a mentor to younger employees. “I enjoy teenagers that come in and are scared to work, because we make it fun for them, teach them and show them. I’ve had a lot of people work for me that today are now grown adults—they’ve gone off to college and have been successful and I was their first employer.”
